HANDMADE – SCANDINAVIAN GLASS STARTING ALL OVER IN BODA, SWEDEN
Welcome to the opening ceremony of “Handmade – Scandinavian Glass Starting All Over” today at 14:00 in The Glass Factory, Boda, Sweden!
The exhibition “Handmade – Scandinavian Glass Starting All Over” shows the innovative trends in the handmade Nordic glass right now, for example in interactive smart glass, innovative project-based forms of cooperation, product development and business models.
The exhibition focuses on the future of glass art and its development. Three museums specializing in glass – The Finnish Glass Museum, Riihimäki (FI), The Glass Factory, Boda (SE) and Glasmuseet Ebeltoft (DK), have invited glass artists to use and to develop the museums and what they offer in a direction that is relevant to the exercise of the art form and the future of glass in the Nordic region. This is partly in the form of a travelling exhibition, which focuses on the new tendencies, and partly in the form of collaborations and networks.
The project is supporter by Nordisk Kulturfond.

SHOWCASED IN MATERIAL MATTERS
Material Matters is a series of satellite exhibitions in ceramics and glass in connection to the "Art of Research V Conference" at Aalto University, School of Arts, Design and Architecture. The exhibition features a series of Ahokas' numbered and signed glass collectables.
Over the past two decades, a continuous dialogue and fruitful convergence between art and design related practices and research has been explored in the academic institutions. Involved in the contemporary discourse of practice-led research, the Art of Research Conference 2014 brings out the interactive and dynamic relationship between experience, materiality and articulation. How are different fields and media shaping these in novel ways through various methods, tools, and skills? How do research and practices operate from these relationships? Through these questions the main aim of the event is to engage in a shared exploration of bold and visionary thinking across different entangling practices. The Conference aims at sharing an understanding of the ontological, epistemological and methodological issues of practice-led research, and offers an academic framework for discussing notions of experience, materiality and articulation.
Welcome to the opening of the Material Matters exposition on Monday, November 24, from 4 pm at the Lume Gallery at the Media Centre Lume, Helsinki.

Drinking In Style In Dmy Berlin, Germany
UKLY (Association for New Ceramics and Glass) has selected the most interesting emerging, underground, overground and head in the clouds ceramic and glass designers in Finland to be presented at DMY Berlin.
Their works are presented via vessels for drinking, that is glasses and cups. Each object is a small scale example of the designers’ views on design, materials and the everyday need to drink. There isn’t only one truth in Finnish design. Therefore, works are included by minimalists, romantics and punks!
DMY Berlin is an international design network for contemporary product design. This year’s central exhibition will feature products and projects from over 500 designers. With international exhibitions and activities in Europe, Asia and South America, DMY gives visibility to unconventional and innovative projects and products that go beyond the mainstream.

Finnish Ceramics & Glass Design Touring In China
The Chinese porcelain production has its 1000 years’ celebration in Jingdezhen in 2004. The University of Art and Design Helsinki, Finland honours this event by bringing to China an exhibition of Finnish Ceramic and Glass Design.

For this exhibition it was chosen some important classic designs from Finnish designers and looked how young graduates of the School of Design have been inspired by the same matters.
